How many sheets does handwritten text take?
Five hundred words, college ruled, US Letter, normal letter size, normal spacing, one side: 3 sheets. About 220 words fit on a side, and the last side stops on line 9. Free, no signup. The count is in the browser.
That is the figure the handwriting page calculator showed with those controls left exactly as listed below. A typed double-spaced page is not this number. Handwriting runs longer, and the ruling changes it.
The settings that produced 3 sheets
Open the calculator. Leave the text box empty and type 500 in the count. These are the controls, checked in desktop Chrome on macOS, October 8, 2026:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Count | 500 |
| Writing language | English |
| Paper | College ruled |
| Letter size | Normal |
| Letter spacing | Normal |
| Sides | One side |
| Page size | US Letter |
The line under the controls read: 3 sheets, about 220 words on a side, last side ends on line 9. Tighter spacing on the same paper fit about 253 words a side. Looser spacing fit about 170.
Switch the page size to A4 and the same 500 words still take 3 sheets, at about 234 words a side. Wide ruled on Letter drops the side to about 180 words, so the pile gets thicker. Those two rulings are the college and wide sheets in free printable lined paper: about 7.1 mm and 8.7 mm.
Paste the text when you have it
The number is a model: a Latin letter about 4 mm wide, or a nearly square character on ruled paper. Your hand is not that model.
Clear the count's authority by pasting the paragraph you actually have to write. The sheet count then comes from the handwriting font on the paper you picked, and each page is drawn under the total. A short Chinese sample — the four lines beginning 床前明月光, 41 characters — landed on 1 side, 4 lines of college ruled A4.
More than 8 pages, and the preview draws the first 3 and the last one. The omitted pages are still in the count.
Graph paper and both genkou sheets ignore the spacing slider. One character per cell, punctuation included. A 400-square genkou sheet holds 400 characters. The same Chinese sample filled 3 rows of that grid.
Print the paper, or export the page
Print this blank paper opens the matching sheet: college ruled, wide ruled, or kindergarten lines. Graph, genkou, and a custom line spacing open the printable paper generator, where you set the ruling and download the PDF.
Open in the handwriting tool carries the text, the letter size, and the ruling into the main editor so you can export a PNG or PDF. That export adds the pen jitter. The calculator preview does not, so the page edge stays still while you change a setting.
What it will not do
The number and the pasted text can disagree. Trust the pasted text when you have the words. Trust the number only as a shopping list for blank sheets.
Nothing is uploaded. I checked the path above in desktop Chrome on macOS in October 2026. I have not run it on a phone. The preview stacks real pages, so a long paste is slower than the number alone.
